Yesterday Mika and I went to Setsukyo Gorge in Takatsuki to escape the heat and try out my new fishing rod. It's the first time i've been fishing in Japan so i was pretty excited. I bought a japanese style fishing rod. it's 5.4 metres long, no reel just tie the same length of line as the rod to the tip and you're set. It seems a bit odd to use such a long rod for river fishing when there are often trees everywhere and i caught my first aerial snag after about 2 mins and had to re rig.
Once i got going it was pretty easy. the length is great so you can set your bait behind exactly where you want pretty easily. first i caught a couple of tiny little things that looked like guppies but were fun to catch. in the picture below i caught some sort of trout. not sure what type but i was stoked. that was the biggest fish i caught. i'm going fishing again tomorrow so expect some monster pics!!

mate, that spot is awesome,i just blew it up on screen.reminds me of fishing as a kid,for trout.i bet the little rascals are hidding under the white water.
yeah there were heaps of little trout there. They're called ayu and are smaller than typical brown or rainbow. i found a pair of goggles on a rock so went for a swim and could see them everywhere. really difficult to catch though. they only eat moss so you have to use a special technique. i was just lucky to jag one.
